German occupation; dismissal from his work in a post office; move to Apeldoorn; studies and work in a Jewish hospital for the mentally ill, December 1940; escape from the deportation of the Jewish hospital workers, January 1942; return to the hospital; escape with help from the Dutch underground, January 1943; life while hidden by a Dutch farmer; liberation by the Canadian Army, April 1945.
