Testimony of Sara Shalem, born in Stopnica, Poland, regarding her experiences in Skarzysko-Kamienna, Czestochowa and Leipzig Zionist family with three daughters; attends a Yavne school; Zionist activities in Stopnica; active community life and mutual aid. Family plans to make aliya to Eretz Israel which were interrupted by the outbreak of the war; German occupation, September 1939; arrival of refugees from other towns in Poland; yellow badge; restrictions on movement; living quarters and work; deportation to labor in a weapons and ammuntions factory in Skarzysko-Kamienna camp, 1942; overcrowding, lice and infections which caused typhus and dysentery; disease and recuperation; murder of her parents and little sister in Treblinka; evacuation of the Skarzysko-Kamienna camp and deportation with her sister to Czestochowa camp, autumn 1944; transfer to Leipzig where the conditions were better; odd jobs; air-raids by the Allied forces; death march, April 1945; crossing the Elba River and abandoned in the forest; receives food and clothing from Germans; arrival of the Red Army, May 1945. Return to Kielce; knowledge about the destruction of Stopnica; aliya training in Warsaw; travel to La Spezia in Italy; aliya to Eretz Israel, May 1946.
