Outbreak of the war; decrees and forced labor; escape in the direction of the East; detention by the Soviets while crossing the border of the occupied area; release and stay in Lwow; smuggled over the Lithuanian border and travel to Vilna, January 1940; life under Soviet occupation, from July 1940; receives transit permits to Japan with the help of the Japanese Consul in Kaunas; travel to Vladivostok, Siberia and sets sail to Japan, January 1941; life in Kobe with help and support from the Joint and Jewish Agency; receives visas to Mandatory Palestine from the British Consul and sets sail, June 1941; aliya to Eretz Israel via Egypt and then by train from Suez to Haifa, August 1941.
