Outbreak of the war between Germany and the Soviet Union, summer 1941; escape in the direction of the East; return home; murder of escapees in Ukmerge and forts in the surrounding area; murder of Jews by mobs and Lithuanian policemen; German occupation; Kaunas Ghetto life; rescue of the witness' toddler daughter along with other children due to Yanas Balbeis, the Lithuanian administrator of an orphanage; help from the priest Poikstys in the supply of birth certificates to the ghetto's Jews; attempt to rescue the witness' oldest daughter; betrayal of his daughter; return of his daughter to the ghetto by the Gestapo; establishment of an underground relief organization for self-defense, September 1941; activities by the underground relief organization in the ghetto; "Aktions"; ghetto life and the condition of the Jews in the ghetto; integration of the relief organization into the general underground; "Aktion" against children; deportation to Stutthof; transfer to Dachau; camp life including mutual help; equipping themselves with knives and other objects as self-defense from murder; liberation.
