Escape to Antwerp, 1939; smuggling his wife and children into Antwerp; enlists in the Belgian Army; life as a Belgian Army soldier in Oostende; German occupation, May 1940; accusation of being a traitor and deportation to France with Jewish refugees; transfer to Saint Cyprien; camp life with Spanish refugees; composes liturgical poems for the Sabbath and Yom Kippur; hospitalization in Perpignan due to malaria; escape to Marseilles; life in Marseilles including finding a hiding place with help from the Paris Rabbi; escape of his family from Belgium and reunion with his family; obtains entry visas to the United States; escape to Lisbon with his family by ship, November 1941; escape to New York on the ship, "Excambion". Aliya to Israel, 1973.
