Testimony of Shmuel Bogler, born in Bodrogkeresztur, Hungary, 1929, regarding his experiences in the Bodrogkeresztur Ghetto, Auschwitz, Kittlitztreben, Buchenwald and other places Religious family with many children; displays of antisemitism; deportation of his father to a detention camp following false stories, 1942. German occupation, 19 March 1944; anti-Jewish decrees including forced wearing of the yellow badge, April 1944; concentration in the Bodrogkeresztur Ghetto with the Jews; transfer to Satoralyaulyhely; deportation on the second transport to Auschwitz, May 1944; camp life including selection by Mengele, June 1944; separation with his brother from their parents; smuggle of tefillin; burning of people; transfer to Kittlitztreben, June 1944; camp life with appproximately 1,500 Polish and Hungarian forced laborers; life in barracks number seven and then in barracks number nine; labor in construction, uprooting trees, laying railroad tracks and in a kitchen of the German Army; smuggle of food; prayers on Shabbat and religious holidays; musical activities under the leadership of violinist Orenstein from Poland; death march to Buchenwald, 01 April 1945; camp life, from March 1945; liberation by the US Army. Hospitalization of his brother in a hospital following intestinal typhus disease; return to Budapest, May 1945.
