Completes his Law studies in Cernauti, 1932; moves to France; enlists in the French Army, summer 1938; wounded; transfer to the Foreign Legion in Algeria; return to France, late 1940; joins the Veterans Organization in Toulouse; contacts with the Armee Juive, the Jewish underground; relief activities for Jews escaping from the German occupied zone; obtains forged documents in the name of Pierre Lacaze, 1943; preparations for Jewish youth to illegally cross the border to Spain en route to Eretz Israel; a group of 120 people treks across the mountains; arrest by the Spanish Border Patrol; release; attitude of the local authorities in the Catalonia district towards the refugees.
