Outbreak of the war; in hiding with his mother and four brothers with Christians in an attic for a year; death of his brother from tuberculosis; discovery of their hiding place after being informed on; incident with collaborators and the witness' escape; makes contact with partisans and move to the mountains; stay in a small village in a pigsty; work and concern for food; daily life in hiding; liberation by the partisans. Return to Veria and reunion with his grandfather; aliya to Eretz Israel with Youth Aliyah, 1946; detention in Cyprus; legal immigration of the family to Eretz Israel.
