Hebrew translation of book about Dr. Roza Shabad-Gawronska, director of a children's home in the Wilno ghetto - "The Heavens Wept," written by Mildred Tenney Handy and translated by Hadas Yoshua Miron, tells the experiences of Dr. Roza Shabad-Gawronska, born in Wilno in 1882, before and during the Holocaust: Childhood in Wilno; medical studies in Germany; working as a pediatrician; lives and works in Wilno from 1921 on; persecution of Jews of Wilno after German–Soviet war breaks out; witness sent to the Wilno ghetto in September 1941; medical activity in the ghetto; establishes children's home in the ghetto and manages it from March 1942 on; deported with all children and caregivers at the children's home to Majdanek (all perished) during liquidation of Wilno ghetto in September 1943. Submitter's remarks: The submitter, Hadas Yoshua Miron, translated Mildred Tenney Handy's book "The Heavens Wept" (published in 1981) in 2015–2016 at the request of members of Dr. Roza Shabad-Gawronska's family.
