Documentation from the National Archives of Estonia from 1918-1960. Since spring 2016, the Estonian State Archives and the Estonian History Archives have been known simply as the National Archives of Estonia. Established in 1921 with the aim of preserving documents from active institutions of the young republic, the State Archives functioned throughout both the Soviet and the German occupations. After the Second World War it was named Central State Archives of the October Revolution and Socialist Construction of Soviet Estonia (Eesti NSV Oktoobrirevolutsiooni ja Sotsialistliku Ülesehituse Riiklik Keskarhiiv (ORKA)), under the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Independent management of the archive was restored in the beginning of 1990s; a former archive of the Estonian Communist Party became affiliated with the Estonian Central State Archive (Eesti Riigiarhiiv) during this time. The Estonian State Historical Archives in Tartu (Eesti Ajalooarhiiv) became a part of the National Archives of Estonia as well. The National Archives of Estonia became active as an umbrella organization on 01 January 1999. The documentation includes schools' records, correspondence, and various regulations and reports related to the activities of the Jews in Estonia in 1918-1941. The bulk of the collections consist of personal records of Jewish students who attended Jewish elementary schools in Tartu; regulations and instructions of the Ministry of Education, the Jewish Cultural Board and other organizations regarding the school and extracurricular activities, tentative educational plans, personal files of Jewish university students, and appointments of lecturers at the University of Tartu in Estonia during the interwar period. The documentation of the Ministry of Social Welfare and various Jewish organizations; assignments prepared by students; historical maps and tables of Jewish history; documentation relating to the University of Tartu (Tartu Ülikool) from 1918-1944; Documentation of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Estonia: income and tax committees; Jewish communities in Tartu and Tallinn; Estonian and Jewish banks and credit associations; notary offices with Jewish cases from 1946-1960; documentation from the Soviet Authorities from 1940-1941.
