Documentation from the Muzejs Ebreji Latvijā (Museum "Jews in Latvia")

The Muzejs Ebreji Latvijā (Museum of Latvian Jewry) was established in 1989 by Holocaust survivors and by the well-known historian Margers Vestermanis. The museum collection includes documents and photographs from private archives and family albums encompassing 450 years of Jewish history in Latvia. Memoirs and testimonies from the Nazi occupation period, mostly of Holocaust survivors but also memoirs of rescuers of Jews and their companions, have a special place in the museum collection. Information regarding the Holocaust includes lists of ghettos and inmates; lists of Jews who were murdered; and lists of Jews of survived. Included also are documents from the Nazi occupation period such as reports from the German Security Police and Einsatzgruppe “A”, as well as documents of various Nazi authorities with information regarding the course of the war, collaboration by the local population, and participation by the local population in the Holocaust. Included in the collection are reports prepared by the Soviet State Emergency Commission regarding the crimes committed by the Nazis and their collaborators against Latvian Jews; official documentation of the municipal administration of the Rigas Prefekturas (Riga Prefecture) Police; official documentation of Einsatzgruppe A active in Latvia in 1941; orders and instructions by the Sicherheitspolizei (SiPo) to the SD and SS in Latvia; instructions by the Generalkommissar and Giebitskommissar of Riga; Latvian antisemitic newspapers such as the "Tevija" newspaper; lists of Jews who were deported to the Riga Ghetto from Hamburg, Dessau, Muenster and Hannover, 1941-1942; statistical reports regarding Jews from France who were deported from Drancy camp.
