Documentation from the Lithuanian Special Archives, Lithuania, 1918-1991

The Lithuanian Special Archives was established within the Lithuanian Archives Department under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania in 1995. The Lithuanian Special Archives (Lietuvos ypatingasis archyvas) preserves documents of the Soviet Union State Security Committee (KGB) LSSR unit, the LSSR Ministry of the Interior (MIA), the Lithuanian Communist Party (LCP), and LSSR institutions, companies and organizations, 1918-1991. Documents of the military commissariats of the Lithuanian SSR under the Ministry of Defense of the Soviet Union, referring to their activities during 1940–1941 and 1944–1991. - Criminal files of Jews arrested by the KGB during 1933 -1954; refugees during 1939 -1940; partisans during 1941-1944; and survivors during 1946-1991. - Court cases of Jews drafted into the Red Army, and subsequently arrested by the KGB in 1940 -1941. - Criminal files of Jews who were arrested and deported to Siberia, 1941-1951. - Personal files of Jews who returned to Latvia from concentration camps in Germany and passed through KGB checkpoints in the Soviet Union during 1944-1954 (infiltration points where former POWs and persons who were surrounded by the Nazis were checked). - Document collections of the 16th Lithuanian Division, including Jews, 1941-1945. - Documentation regarding the activities of the Vilna Ghetto SD Sonderkommando in the Kaunas Ghetto and Vilna Ghetto, and regarding the execution of Jews in Ponar. - Personal files of Jews, 1918-1940. - Documents regarding participants in the Vilna Ghetto Uprising (Vilnius Ghetto). - Lists of former members of the Kaunas Ghetto underground . - List of partisans, including Jews, who were killed on 06/05/1942. - Documents regarding combat operations of the 16th Lithuanian Division as part of the Red Army during 1942-1944. - Lists of partisans, and activities of partisans detachments during 1942-1945. - Documentation from the Ministry of the Interior and the KGB; lists of the NKVD in Lithuania, including Jews. - Lists of individual Jewish veterans and partisans. - Documentation from the Ministry of the Interior of Lithuania: personal files of Holocaust survivors who immigrated to Israel, including testimonies with personal details of the entire family: among them are persecuted persons, victims, and survivors. - Documents with investigation reports regarding the killing of Jews in 1941 in various places: Alytus; Kaunas, Kretinga, the 9th Fort, Kedainiai, Palanga, Telsiai, Marijampole, Mazeikiai, Panevezys, Siauliai, Svencione, Ukmerge, Utena, Ponariai, and other places. - Personal files regarding the interrogation of collaborators during the Holocaust in Lithuania: service as German SS soldiers in the death camp in Lublin: burning and execution of inmates; service in Police battalion no. 2 as guards in Majdanek camp; detention of Jews in Vilna; execution convoy in Paneriai; Police battalion no. 7, which guarded the POW camp in Kharkov (Ukraine); executions of Jews in Vinnytsia, Gaisin, and other places; participation in the execution of Jews in Kaunas (the 4th Fort and 9th Fort), in Minsk, Slutsk, Banyakoni, Kletsk, Trakai, Švenčioneliai, Kedainiai, Žiežmariai, Voronovo, Grodno, Marijampole, Jurbarkas, and Telšiai. - Provocatively organized escape to Sweden of Jews who escaped from the Kaunas Ghetto; testimonies of Jews; transport of Jews from Kaunas for deportation to Estonia in 1943. - Protocols with testimonies of survivors; looting of Jewish property; preparation of killing pits by POWs, for executions. - Documentation from the investigative committee of the KGB - the Lithuanian State Security Committee during 1944-1967.
