Documentation from the Marijampolės apskrities archyvas - Kaunas Regional State Archives - Marijampolė Branch, Lithuania, 1945-1954 The Marijampolė County Archives preserve over 242,000 files. They consist of documents created by state institutions that functioned until 1944 and which still function in the greater part of the territory known as Sūduva, i.e. the Marijampolė, Kazlų Rūda and Kalvarija municipalities, and the Vilkaviškis and Šakiai districts. The Archives are also involved in the supervision of the records management of local public institutions. Included are records of county State Notary and Taxation Offices in Marijampolė and Šakiai, related to the restitution and inheritance of individual and communal Jewish property after World War II; Documentation from the Marijampole municipality and from notary offices, regarding agreements related to the purchase of houses of Jewish survivors, and also the transfer of buildings: the synagogue, the Jewish school, sawmills and windmills in Šakiau, Kalvarija, Vilkaviškis, Kapsukas and Kazlų Rūda during 1944-1957; This is a joint project of the USHMM and Yad Vashem.
