Documentation from the Archive of the Auschwitz-Birkenau Museum (Archiwum Panstwowego Muzeum Auschwitz-Birkenau), Poland, 1939-1945 Card file of the inmates in the Mauthausen concentration camp The card file belongs to the decentralized collection of the Mauthausen card file, which is kept in several archives. Some of it is kept in the Yad Vashem Archive. In the card file is data such as first names, last names, birth dates, parents' names, place of birth and place of residence, religion, nationality, political affiliation, the category to which the inmate belonged, and stay/s in other camps. Sterbebuch - the Book of Death (inmates who died in the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp) The Sterbebuch is the registry of the inmates who died or were murdered in the camp. Each inmate who died in the camp is registered in the Sterbebuch. Sometimes only the inmate number is registered, and in other cases the names are also registered. Photographs of inmates of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp Included in the collection are portrait photographs of the inmates registered in Auschwitz camp who were photographed in three different ways: frontal, from the side, and with a cap. The photographs included the inmate number. The photographs were created for the purpose of being attached to the inmate's card file for the purpose of identification of the inmates. The collection serves today, in conjunction with documents, to reconstruct information regarding the inmates and their fate.
