Submitter's remarks: Mirjam Walter née Emanuel was born in Amsterdam in 1927. Her parents—Walter Emanuel (a textile importer) and his wife, Rachel Emanuel née Cohen (a teacher of German). Mirjam had a brother named Han, born in 1924. During the Holocaust, the Emanuels survived in hideouts arranged for them by the principal of the school.
