Testimony of Lev Natarevich, born in 1928 in Riga, Latvia, about his experiences as a deportee in eastern Russia Childhood; father is a Zionist activist, a member of the Jewish National Fund, the Foundation Fund, and Herzliya; witness attends the Hebrew Gymnasium in Riga; Soviet occupation ensues; Gymnasium shuttered; family deported by train to Siberia; father removed from train and disappears with other older men on June 17, 1940; witness sent on to Kansk on July3, 1940; lives for about a year in Berezovka and Noshino; sent on to Krasnoyarsk; sent on by cargo vessel to Igarka (the destination of the deported Russian intelligentsia) in 1942; lives there until 1945; sent away for forced labor; back to Riga in 1946; official decision on eligibility of children under age fourteen to return to their homes in 1946; Jews return to Riga in 1948; former deportees persecuted under Soviet rule; witness immigrates to Israel in 1973.
