Testimony of Meyer Shwartz, born in 1929 in Łódź, Poland, about his experiences in the Łódź ghetto; the Birkenau, Sachsenhausen, and Lieberos camps; etc. Family and childhood in Łódź; witness attends a Jewish school; German occupation ensues in 1939; restrictions imposed on Jews; family sent to Łódź ghetto in December 1939; ghetto Judenrat established under Chaim Rumkowski; life in the ghetto; many institutions established: school, hospital, Jewish police; Aktionen in the ghetto; many Jews sent to Chełmno extermination camp; epidemic typhus erupts in the ghetto; mass mortality; family deported to Birkenau in August 1944; transferred to Auschwitz; selection; mother sent to gas chambers; witness and father separated; death march on January 3, 1945; witness reaches Sachsenhausen; transferred to Austria and passes through Mauthausen, Lieberose, and Gunskirchen; liberated by American forces on May 24, 1945; placed in hospital; reaches displaced persons camp in Salzburg; slips into Italy; immigrates to Eretz Israel in 1946.
