Testimony of Chaim Heinz Shmueli Shmul, born in Teplice, Czechoslovakia, in 1935, regarding the persecution of his family and his experiences in Czechoslovakia Son of a non-Jewish mother and a Jewish father; disconnection from his Jewish family following the intermarriage of his father; German occupation of the Sudetenland; escape to Prague in 1938; anti-Jewish laws; divorce of his parents and his mother abandoning him; activism of his father in the anti-Nazi underground; detention of his father in 1943; wandering alone in the streets; capture by the Gestapo; interrogation and beatings; being handed over to the Jewish community; release of his father from detention; deportation to Theresienstadt with his father in January 1944; living in the children's block; being made to work; preparations for a visit of a Red Cross delegation to Theresienstadt; participating in a propaganda film regarding the children in the ghetto; preservation of his paintings from the camp in a museum in the Czech Republic; transferring his father to Auschwitz and the Gleiwitz camp; deportation of most of the children in the group; being rescued from deportation due to having a non-Jewish mother; liberation by the Red Army in May 1945; reunion with his father; rehabilitation with the help of the JDC; return to Teplice; aliya to Israel with his father in 1949.
