Letter by the director of the Research Centre in Auschwitz regarding the use of the previously Jewish-owned tannery in Oświęcim for collection and shipment of human hair, 2018

The letter by the director of the Research Centre in Auschwitz Piotr Setkiewicz is the response to the question by Susan Zalcman from the UK regaridng the fate of the tannery in Oświęcim, previously owned by her grandfather. The tannery was turned into a workshop for collection and shipment of hair cut from the murdered prisoners. The workshop was operated by prisoners. After the liberation 7,000 kg of human hair was discovered at the tannery.
