Testimony of Miriam Maria (Fano) Danon, born in 1932 in Trieste, Italy, about her family's escape to Venice and hiding there Childhood in Trieste; father active on behalf of Jewish refugees from Germany and Poland; anti-Jewish legislation in 1939; Jews not allowed to possess radio sets and to employ non-Jewish helpers; witness attends a Jewish school; Italy surrenders in September 1943; German occupation ensues; father goes into hiding; family escapes to Venice; switches among three hotels there; evicted from the last hotel; enters an old-age home in the Jewish ghetto; witness and brouther escape to hiding with a local woman for pay; parents, hiding elsewhere, are denounced; parents interned in a local jail; parents hospitalized and rescued; liberation in April 1945; life after the war; immigration to Israel in 1951; adjustment to life in Israel.
