Family with roots in Germany; Zionist family; father’s participation in the Zionist Congress; attending a public school; Nazis’ rise to power in 1933; grandfather and uncles move to the Netherlands; father visits Eretz Israel; transfer to a Jewish school; life in Jewish society until 1937; father’s arrest for transferring money to her grandfather and uncle who live in the Netherlands; he is held in several prisons until his deportation to Auschwitz in 1943; moved with her sister, on the day of their father’s arrest, to the home of relatives in the Netherlands, by their uncle; life with the uncle; attending a local school; return to Germany after several months; continuation of life in Germany; Kristallnacht in November 1938; burning of the school that was inside the synagogue; Nazis’ entry into her home and causing destruction; remaining in Germany due to mother’s refusal to leave without their father; still with no financial problems; move to Antwerp in June 1939; the Nazi occupation in 1940; failed attempt to escape to England; move to Brussels in summer 1941; expulsion from school; work with a seamstress; receives order to report; escapes to the seamstress; escape with her family; life hiding in an apartment above a Christian family in a suburb far from the city; liberation; continued life in the city; aliya to Israel in 2015.
