The collections from where the object were confiscated are indicated by signatures, the most prominent collection being the Oscar Bondy collection. Oscar Bondy was a Jewish Austrian art collector. His collection was 'aryanized' in July, 1938, and transferred to the Kunsthistorisches Museums in Vienna and distributed later to various Austrian Museums. His great-grandson Gerd von Seggern considers it as probable that parts of his collection came into possession of the Gurlitt family.
