Testimony of Jacques Zaidman, born in 1935 in Antwerp, Belgium, about his experiences in hiding in the suburbs of Antwerp, in Lille, and in Brussels Testimony about the family in Antwerp—owned clothing and furniture shops; Yiddish and German spoken at home; German occupation ensues in 1940; witness and brother placed by parents with Belgian families in two suburbs (Mortsel and Brasschaat) for several months; family escapes to Lille; family escapes back to Belgium and reaches Brussels in September 1941; obtaining false documents and changing name to Jacques Hendricks; he and his brother attend a Catholic school; Gestapo manhunts in town; father sent away for forced labor and returns; bombardments; liberation by British and Canadian forces in September 1944; back to Antwerp after the war; antisemitism after the war.
