Entrusted to a Christian family as a baby; murder of her parents; early memories of the Christian family; her false name is Edza; kidnapped from the home of the Christian family by two men claiming to be her uncles, 1945; transfer to the Jewish orphanage on Pietkovska Street, Lodz; neglect; violence; punishments; her older brother, eight years her senior, appears at the orphanage sporadically and disappears; transfer by the JDC to Chateau De Jalesnes in the area of Marseilles, France; improved conditions; learning Hebrew; her rejection of offers of adoption by Jewish families because she has a brother; leaving for Eretz Israel on the ship "Patria", 1947; absorption by the Meir family in Kiryat Bialik who gave her the first feeling of home; War of Independence and her transfer to a youth village in Petach Tikvah; reappearance of her brother, and her transfer to a religious agricultural school in Kfar Batya; difficult memories from both institutions.
