Testimony of Joseph George Jerzyk Schenker, born in Kraków, Poland in 1933, regarding his experiences as a child in Kraków, in Lwów, in the Ural area, in Yoshkar Ola and in Moscow His childhood and family in Kraków; his father is a physician; outbreak of the war; draft of his father into the Polish Army as a physician; escape to Lwów with his mother and sister; murder of Jews by Ukrainians; draft of his father into the Red Army in Chernovtsy; transfer to the area of the Ural Mountains with his mother and sister; life in the forest and in a Kolkhoz; his father finds his family in 1941; detention of his father and deportation to the Transnistria area; release of his father; his mother's work as a nurse in an infirmary; hunger; he studies in a school; move to Yoshkar Ola; life in Yoshkar Ola; his father finds his family with help from Clementine Churchill, the president of the Red Cross, in late 1944; transfer to the British Embassy in Moscow with his mother and sister, with help from an NKVD officer; receipt of aliya certificates; return to Kraków; aliya to Eretz Israel via Germany and France, 1946.
