Offspring of an affluent family in Ostrava; father practices law and chairs the Zionist Organization in Czechoslovakia in 1921–1939; father participates in establishing the Hebrew Univesity in Jerusalem and in the last pre-war Zionist Congress in 1939; mother active in WIZO; witness attends a Jewish school until fifty grade; sister immigrates to Eretz Israel in 1935; plans to immigrate to Eretz Israel; does so in 1936; mother does so in 1938; father does so in 1939.
