History of the Archives:
The Archives was established in 1932 by order of the People's Commissioners Council and the central general Ukrainian Executive Committee. During 1932-1958 it was called the Archives of the City of Kiev affiliated with the City Council. During 1958-1962 it was active as the Municipal State Archives, without a storeroom for permanent collections. From 1962 it was active as the Municipal State Archives, with a storeroom for permanent collections. Since 1980 it has been called the State Archives of the City of Kiev.
The Sub-Record Group includes documentation of the local authorities before the German occupation, and includes for instance lists of workers, pupils and students, 1937-1941; documentation of the Soviet Extraordinary State Commission from 1944, regarding Nazi war crimes in the Kiev region during the German occupation, including a description of each protocol and data regarding the number of people murdered, torture, and the methods of murder.
