Transport No. 36, labeled Da223 departed from Aspangbahnhof in Vienna on August 17th, 1942, and arrived at Maly Trostenets on August 21st. The transport consisted of 1,000 Jews, 205 of them were older than 61 years. The average age of the deportees was 49.
The train traveled along a route that passed through Vienna’s Nordbahnhof, Platerowo, Czeremcha, Wolkowysk, Baranovichi, Koydanovo, Minsk and Kolodishchi. Twelve armed uniformed policemen (Schutzpolizei) under the command of Lieutenant Peter Johann (Revierleutnant der Schutzpolizei) guarded the deportees throughout the trainride.
According to timetable number 62, which was distributed on August 15th, 1942 by the Central Railroad Administration to the train stations at Wolkowysk, Baranovichi and the freight stations at Minsk and Kolodishchi, train Da 223 arrived on Wednesday August 19th at 4:35 pm at the main train station in Wolkowysk. From there the Jews were transferred to freight cars and a passenger car was attached to accommodate the guards. The train resumed its journey at 9:25 pm and arrived on Thursday, August 20th at 4:01 am at the main station in Baranovichi where a new engine was attached to the train....
