Transport number 4 left Vienna for Modliborzyce on March 5, 1941 and consisted of 999 Jews, 312 of them were older than 61 years. The average age of the deportees was 49. The deportees were transported by truck from the pickup point at the school and taken to the Aspangbahnhof. However, since an insufficient number of boxcars had been assigned for the transport, the Jews were ordered to leave their baggage and personal effects behind in Vienna. Due to an intervention by Dr. Loewenherz, the luggage left behind by the deportees was forwarded to them on March 12, 1941. The authorities warned him to not include any additional luggage. A ghetto was established in the Jewish quarter of Modliborzyce, where the Jews of Vienna were housed together with other Jews from the area. Horrendous living conditions and extreme overcrowding in the Modliborzyce ghetto resulted in a high mortality rate, especially among the sick and elderly. Able-bodied men were taken to forced labor in the Lysakow and Jenisow camps. Those who remained in the ghetto survived by selling whatever they could of their belongings. The ghetto was liquidated in the autumn of 1942. On October 8, 1942, its inhabitants were taken to the nearby Zaklikow train station. They were transported to one of the death camps of “Operation Reinhard”, where most of them perished. The sick and elderly were murdered inside the ghetto....
