Transport from Westerbork, Camp, The Netherlands to Bergen Belsen, Camp, Germany on 13/09/1944

What appears to have been the last deportation train left Westerbork on September 13, 1944. It carried two transports: one to Bergen-Belsen with 268 deportees aboard and another to Auschwitz, carrying 11 passengers. The source of these data is a document from the archives of Hanns Albin Rauter, High Police and SS Leader (HSSPF—der Höhere SS- und Polizeiführer) in the Netherlands. It comprises an overview of 7 groups of Jews, followed by an itemized account of each list separately with the name, date of birth, and occupation of each deportee. According to this document, 6 groups of deportees were sent to Bergen-Belsen. 69 Jews had been placed in a special group by order of Wilhelm Harster. 31 of them evidently held Paraguayan citizenship. 24 were listed as diamantaires. However, since one more name had been added in handwriting to the typed list, this group may have numbered 25. 12 belonged to a group of people whose “racial origin” remained somewhat vague (Abstammungsuntersuchungen); some of them, apparently, were “second-grade” Jews (a Nazi legal definition for those who had one Jewish grandparent), and the like. There were 50 “unknown” children who may have been in hiding until then, who were considered Jewish. 55 deportees held were foreign nationals, Turkish in many cases, and the remark “apparently Egyptian” appears next to the name of one Jewish woman. Finally, there were 58 “Mischlinge” (offspring of mixed Jewish–Gentile marriages) who had committed various infractions....
