The exact date of departure of the 16th transport from Thessaloniki is not clear and presumed to be in early May 1943. A total of approximately 2,500 Jews were included in this transport. The Jews were deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau where they arrived on May 8. Upon arrival at the camp, 568 men were admitted into the camp and tattooed with the numbers 120650-121217. An additional 247 women were also admitted and tattooed with the numbers 44380-44626. The remaining Jews were murdered in the gas chambers immediately upon arrival.
