This transport was the 37th to leave Berlin for the ghettos and killing sites in Eastern Europe and was thus designated “Osttransport 37”. It departed from the city’s Putlitzstrasse Station in the Moabit district on April 19, 1943 and most likely arrived in Auschwitz the following day. There were 681 Jews on this transport. One was Benjamin Wallheimer who survived the war. He was taken from the Neuendorf Zionist training camp (Hachshara) to Berlin, where he was interned in a Sammellager with many other Jewish youths from Neuendorf and other such training camps. He remembers that the deportees were ordered into a train consisting of cattle cars....
