Those with children were first detained in the Velodrome d’Hiver stadium in Paris before their transfer to the Pithiviers or Beaune-la-Rolande camps. Those without children were transferred to the Drancy camp and would be deported from there in the upcoming transports. The Jews deported to Auschwitz-Birkenau on July 29, 1942 were among the childless Jews arrested on July 16-17 and transferred to Drancy. On July 22, 1942 Roethke sent directives to the Feldgendarmerie (German Military Police) with directives for the upcoming deportations, including the one scheduled to leave Drancy on July 29, 1942. Each transport was to depart from the Bourget-Drancy train station at 8:45, a guard of 1 officer and 8 men should be made available by 6am at the Drancy camp. In addition to the Feldgendarmerie, the French Gendarmerie provided an escort of 1 officer and 30 men until the Franco-German border. On July 29, Roethke confirmed the departure of train 901/7 from the Bourget-Drancy train station at 8:55 with a total of 1000 Jews destined for Auschwitz....
