Transport XVIII/6 Ez1 from Oppeln, Oppeln (Oppeln), Silesia (Upper), Germany to Theresienstadt, Ghetto, Czechoslovakia on 03/08/1943

This Transport departed from the Oppeln train station on August 3, 1943 and arrived at Theresienstadt on the same day It was the seventh of 10 transports comprising of elderly Jews and others from the province of Upper Silesia who had until now been protected from deportation. This was marked a Special Transport, consisting of two deportees: Fritz and Henriette Grünberger of Ratibor. 50 year-old Fritz was listed as an accountant, and 46 year-old Henriette was listed as a seamstress and a housewife.
Little is known of Special Transports such as this one. Presumably, several days prior to the deportation, the Grünbergs were notified by the Gestapo. They were ordered to report to an assembly point in Oppeln , to settle their bills and debts, and bring up to 10kg of luggage and the keys to their apartment.
In the assembly point, the Grünbergs were registered and forced to sign a declaration, relinquishing their entire property to the state. Later, they were marched to the Main Train Station (Hauptbahnhof) in Oppeln through a main street, escorted by Gestapo personnel or uniformed police. At the train station, they were put under guard in either a passenger car or a prisoner car, which was connected to a regular passenger train.
