Transport VIII/4 from Hannover, Hannover (Hannover), Hanover, Germany to Theresienstadt, Ghetto, Czechoslovakia on 13/01/1944

Transport
Departure Date 13/01/1944 Arrival Date 13/01/1944
Theresienstadt,Ghetto,Czechoslovakia
There is very little information regarding this transport although we know that it consisted of 10 Jews and arrived in Theresienstadt on January 13, 1944. However, the date of departure is uncertain. The journey from Hanover to Theresienstadt usually took a day, so it can be assumed that the transport left on January 12. The preceding deportation from Hanover arrived just one day earlier and consisted solely of Jews from mixed marriages that had been annulled due to divorce or death of the non-Jewish spouse. It can be assumed that this was true for the majority of the deportees on this transport as well. The transport arrived in Theresienstadt on January 12, 1944 and was registered in the records of the ghetto as VIII/4. The Roman numeral VIII refers to Hanover as the city of origin, and the number 4 to the fourth transport from that city. In Theresienstadt, many of the elderly Jewish deportees died of hunger and disease. Others were later transferred to extermination camps in the east where they were murdered.
