On December 4, 1941 a „Stab“ (staff) transport arrived in Theresienstadt.
This transport consisted of 23 leaders of the Jewish community in Prague. Among them were Jakob Edelstein, Otto Zucker and Egon Redlich.
The transport consisted mainly of men, whose spouses were deported to Theresienstadt on March 26, 1942. Upon their arrival, the members of this transport were ordered to form a Jewish council (Ältestenrat). Edelstein was appointed as head of the council, however in January 1943, Paul Epstein, a German Jew, who had arrived in the Ghetto, replaced Edlestein.
