There were 15 Jews in this transport from former ‘mixed marriages’ who were scheduled for deportation because either their non-Jewish partner had died or they had divorced. Nine came from Nuremberg, two from Würzburg, one person was from Forchheim and three were from Fürth. The oldest person on board was 84 years old and the youngest was 50.
The transport was organized and carried out under the supervision of Hans Macht from the Nuremberg Gestapo office.
The Jews were not arrested prior to the transport. Four days before the deportation the Jews were informed that they had to report on the morning of January 17, to the former orphanage on Julienstrasse 2 in Fürth which had served as an old-age home since March 1942. At the same time they were informed that their meager remaining financial assets and properties had been appropriated. This notification also included a declaration of property which they had to complete and sign. In Julienstrasse their luggage was searched by the Gestapo and their last valuables were confiscated....
