The village of Wysokie is located about 42 kilometers southeast of the city of Lublin.[1] During World War II, it was one of seventeen villages which belonged to the municipality of Wysokie, in Zamość County, within the Lublin District of occupied Poland (the General Government).[2]
A census conducted by the Polish government in 1921 lists sixty-seven Jews who lived in Wysokie.[3]
The village was captured by the Germans in mid-September 1939. About two weeks later, following the Ribbentrop-Molotov Pact (signed on August 23), the Red Army entered it. About two weeks later, with the departure of the Soviets, the village returned to German control.[4]...
