The first deportations of Jews and Poles from Słupca (Grenzhausen), a town in Konin County with a total population of 5,534 prior to the occupation, took place in February 1940. The transport departed for Bochnia (Salzberg) and Tarnów (Tarnau), two small towns in the voivodeship of Kraków (Krakau).
Dawid Leiser, who wasn't deported from Słupca at that time but witnessed the deportation, stated in a post-war testimony that the transport consisted of Polish intelligentsia and the wealthiest Jews of the town.
The deportees were assembled in a local school building. According to Mosze Leiser, who was on this transport, approximately fifty to sixty Jewish families were divided into two groups....
