The transport departed Vught on June 6, 1943. It consisted of 1,593 people among whom 806 were children. The train left late at night. Another transport succeeded this one the following day.
Two days later, on June 9, David Kokker, a prisoner at Vught, set out the chronology of the events during the days leading up to the departure of this transport as well as the prevailing mood:
[…] Have regained a degree of serenity. Last week I went over to Mother's […] In the course of our conversation she says: " don't tell anyone, but there's going to be another transport […] But on Sunday official figures said: The worst days of the camp are upon us". People guess, but those who know won't say. I've never seen a secret kept so perfectly. It's a scary feeling to walk among people who know what's going to happen to us all and won't tell us […] Gradually what's going to happen leaks out. Nobody knows who heard it first. But in the end people are convinced, although no one has made an official announcement: all the children have to leave. First people say: without their parents, later that's left open […] On that evening, and on previous evenings, visitors were allowed, which had already caused a certain amount of disquiet. As a consequence the women heard the announcement in our barracks. The document was read out by a barrack leader, who had to stop repeatedly because he was weeping throughout....
